Salt Pool Chlorine Generator | Electrode Enhancement

Challenge number : 35246 Opening Date : 2021-10-22
Status : Closed Closing Date : 2021-12-31

Context

Our company specializes in the design and manufacture of pool equipment. Our new product, a salt pool chlorine generator, has been on the market for more than a year. Following several customer experiences, we discovered that premature wear of electrodes (MMO type) could occur. We need to understand what’s going on and make adjustments to our product so we can resume sales for the 2022 season.

Description of the challenge

Specifically, we observe that the coating is severely damaged, uniformly, on all connected and floating electrodes. The customer understands that the product is a "consumable", but the customer expects to replace the electrolysis cell after 5 or 7 years, not before the end of the first season.

Constraint(s)

Large quantities of components are in inventory or in transit to our plant. Between electronic circuits, transformers and electrodes, a very high monetary value is at stake. After consulting with our development partners, we have good reason to believe that the product design is adequate.
